Title: 2009: Changes show up late or not at all! [nearly solved]
Post by: Dennis on October 07, 2009, 18:21:02
Greetings,

As instructed in the docs I created a sub while I move into my new site. (A new install)

I have added new links in main menu and added categories and content and followed
the instruction in the help docs while I learn on Elxis features.

When I replace the demo content sometimes it show at ones but, usually it show up an
hour later, when I create a new content and link it to the section where I want it to be,
it does not show up so far, some of it I did yesterday.

My host are one of the biggest you’ll find and everything is up to date so I think it is not the reason?

Any idea why these happen (or does not happen)? And how to solve it?

Dennis

(Edited) Just noticed it has the red mark in the published logo, which means:
Published, but has Expired

How can a new content been expired?

check if you have cache enabled in global configuration ... this is the 99,99% what you facing here! probably it is set to 3600sec(1h) to refresh... thats ok.
if yes then you have only to clean-cache to make content immediately available to anonymous users.

the icon that marks content as expired is not something that you have to worry about!
simply open and save again or unpablish-publish  and it will fix... it can happen  to be marked as expired  upon saving for the first time due to the matter that you have not set an expire-date..
elxis then will print the unix-time(as it called) ...something like that: 00-00-1979 .. this is for sure a past date.. but content will show up even then(if clear cache)!
to avoid this simply add "never" to the expire-date field  before save content for the first time!

Thank you,

Now all the content I added is online but, after closer look it was not Expired, it was market with: Published, but is Pending
and I only see it the next day, not within an hour or whatever the time limits are. Yes the date was 1979!

How can I make the content to be published right away when I save it? I cannot wait till next day if  need to edit it before I publish it!

Dennis

i wrote above.. click on this pending icon .. it will unpublish the item.. click it again to set it published... it will set(fix) it to published.
if this above not working...
try open and save the item again....
if this not working either then before save the item for the first time look at

parameters>>
- publish date: click on [....]  add today's date
-  expired date: write "never"  (without the " "  just>>  never)

I did all you mentioned but still I have to wait long time to see my work published!

In past few hours I added 9 new content pages to one category and they are not published on front end.

any other ideas to solve this?

I have tried both Static and Standard cache

if you have enable one of them then site-content will be refreshed and viewable by anonymous users (site visitors) after the amount of time that is specified in the settings of each one cache-system, either the static or the basic cache.

you can disable them(and clean!... important!) for ever from now on, or you can clean always ( tools>>clean cache) after making any content-submissions or other changes to your site

I changed the sec and do not have to wait a long time.

Another thing, I have moved over 100 content pages in 4 categories which I link to from main menu.
In Frontpage Manager, I only list one content page in each category to be published on front page but,
content from one category is market not to be published on front page but, big part, if not all of the
content are displayed on front page.

Why does this happen and how can I make it be the way I have ordered?

Front-page ordering is controlled by the menu item's parameters that links to front-page.

-if too low sec for cache .. then no matter if it is enabled or not...
-you can imminently clean cache to make changes imminently  visible after saving items by visiting tools>>clean-cache
- categories can not be published on frontpage, unless you mean you have a link of a category and this link is  published in 1st position of the main-menu(?)
as datahell said check your links to frontpage.. those control the appearance and ordering of lists with content items

Thanks guys,

I did link from main menu to the categories and I still have one category that I didn’t want on front
page that shows all the category content on front page but, to solve this problem I created a new
page I use for front page. I will run this site like this and next site, I hope I can bypass this issue!
