Hello.
I have 2 Elxis 2009 installations, one of which returns me the message "There are no available extensions of this type on Elxis Downloads Center." after clicking on the "Fetch list of available extensions" option.
The installations are on the same main server, on different domains, in two separate virtual servers.
I'm quit sure i've checked everything for anything wrong (or differences), either between the configurations of the two virtual servers, Elxis installations, databases, erased the VS and made it back a couple of times. Even reinstalled Elxis from scratch.
This issue came out recently (i don't manage to guess if i've eventually done something wrong). Perhaps it depends on the server (???).
Has anybody encountered this same issue?
BTW, Updiag is not working on both installations: "Error Could not get data from elxis.org".
On both cases, no error output from debug...
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Elxis.org was down for maintenance today for about 3 hours. The services are now all back and Updiag should work fine. As for the EDC installer empty the cache folder, make sure the folder is writeable and re-try. If success you should see an edc.xml file inside the cache folder.

Thanks, Datahell for the fast answer, as your standard is!
I've tried your suggestion (doesn't resolve though for me) but i believe the issue i'm experimenting is due to some other problem, i think connectivity, because is going parallel with the module rss fetching option. The module worked for a couple of weeks but suddenly stopped to show feeds on left in the main page (this is the main reason i started investigating)...
Even switched off firewalls.
I've now erased the caches through the server' file manager because Elxis "clean cache" i've noticed didn't emptied all the files: now both installs have the same exact problem, :-\ shame on me
:D

Yes, it seems that it is a connectivity problem. Check the apache's error log for php errors.
Take this file and copy-paste it in your cache folder:
http://www.elxis-downloads.com/edc.xml (http://www.elxis-downloads.com/edc.xml)
It will make it work until the next refresh (4 hours)...

Thanks a lot, Datahell.
If i'll find what i'm missing i'll post it for others.
All the best!

That's so strange:
no errors on apache logs
and
in the other site i've tested a new module with rss feed: works like a charm...
and
inserted in site #1 the rss feed from site #2: WORKS.
So, the conclusion is that site #1 is not able to fetch rss feeds from outside the main server.
-
I've found that the rss fetch and the EDCinstaller/Updiag problems are not related each other.
The rss fetch was solved with the php directive allow_url_fopen ON and Apache restart.
Remain still unsolved the EDCinstaller/Updiag issues.
-
allow_url_fopen should be OFF, it is security risk to have it ON! There is something else that blocks EDC installer. If you wish during the next week (not now) send me username/password to your site FTP/Elxis administration to debug it.

It's very kind of you, thanks :)

Today I've tested another router, without firewalls, formatted and reinstalled the entire server from scratch, gave full perms to MySQL, installed ver 2008 and 2009 in a http://°°°°°°.com subfolder (a drupal 6 running there with working rss feeds aggregator).
Switched off SEO and .htaccess, too; with and without FTP; cache Yes/No..
Nothing solved and no errors anywhere in logs.. I'm going a little scared...
Then, i tested a Joomla installation in a subfolder: no problems showed up at all with rss feeds from external sources.
Then, i tested a Mambo installation in another subfolder: ok with external sources rss feeds but "Check your Internet connection" with "com_installer / addon"
But I don't want to use Joomla or Mambo at all... that's it ???

I will take a look at your site and answer you here. Please wait.

You are ready. The problem was DOMIT. For some reason did not worked (we have already replaced it by simplepie but not for all tasks). I wrote a custom function that uses CURL or fsockopen and replaced the get of the XML file from EDC by this function and now works fine.
-
You are simply great!
About the rss fetch problem i suppose i have to open another thread..
But aren't Domit/Simplepie also responsible for the feeds?
:D :-*

In my script I checked for CURL as first priority to open the connection to the remote server. so the fsockopen works only if you have no CURL support. I think this is the key to solve your problem. Needs more testing to tell. I fixed the EDC Browser for you, so I guess I done my job ;D

And i thank you one million times again

BTW, nice avatar :P

:D :D That it's me after 5 days rolling on and off with formatting/testing/going crazy :D :D

Hello!
I've finally managed to get my installs deal with the Download Center and the UPDIAG doing what it is supposed to do.
The problem were residing in the router setup, that were filtering proxies.
Thanks again for support,
Cheers
