favicon.ico
upload a new one ...
inside http://domain/images folder and...
in global config>>site>>Favorites Site Icon:(to the end) make sure it says favicon.ico .
to make a .ico icon you can use online tools such us:
http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/favicon/
Note: recommend to use "favicon" as name for the icon ... like this: favicon.ico (.ico it is not icon)
More info:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICO_(icon_image_file_format)

Just upload a picture file name favicon.ico to the root directory of your site.

Just upload a picture file name favicon.ico to the root directory of your site.
this is enough for some sites ,,, but with elxis is advisable to visit global config and setup things correctly(as i said) elxis print the favicon shortcut in their code...
if you remove from there you can put in root your favicon.... otherwise 2 favicons will load in the bar one after the other....
if you remove the favicon image from images folder without removing code from elxis(not clever) then server error logs will print an error at any browser request.
Just upload a picture file name favicon.ico to the root directory of your site.
it is not just a picture not all pictures are suitable .. read above links.
also is recommended to let your elxis as is and use the way i told above ...
