Title: My first site with Elxis
Post by: pavel on January 13, 2009, 18:03:41
Hello everybody.  Here is my first site with a unique template built with Elxis.

It is a simple personal blog about my kids mainly for close friends and relatives.  I used eBlog as a front page (as it is the easiest for updates, most posts will be short and I don't care that much that sections/categories will not appear in the url address for high google ranking).

Note: Photo gallery is not elxis based.  I was using plogger.org gallery on another site for the last two years and I didn't want to loose all images/comments already collected since 2006, so I installed the same template for plogger and made an "external link" to the gallery.

Constructive remarks/critique are welcomed!

Now that I understand better how Elxis works, hope to present more in recent future.

I like it  ;D  Nice and "happy" colors used!

Great work.

Very nice and fun.

There's one thing to make it even better... login page is using default login picture in top right corner. I am sure you can find some login illustration that would fit better.

1 notice: your gallery pages don't have Page Titles.

1st impression was very good. Keep adding content to be more complete. I agree with Ivan (about login picture)

Thank you for your quick replies.

I totally agree on changing login image (overlooked) and indeed, I could add album titles for photo albums.  Now album names are displayed in pathway links.  In plogger it should be easy.

One day I'll try to write a component for integrating plogger into elxis properly, but I am not sure I have suffissient knowledge of PHP for this task at this time.

The menu titles are being over lapped when looking at the site using firefox.
Other than that it looks like a nice site.

Very good implementation of eblog. Some notices on css/layout:
With firefox menu links are been displayed semi-hidden and lower than IE. Also an horizontal scrollbar is being displayed.
With IE7 the "login" menu item is not visible and also horizontal scrollbar is being displayed.

Also you loose half top-navigation in secondary pages ... no way to home page... etc.

Thank you everybody for good comments.  It made me realize that I have to pay better attention to details ;)

Found problem with horizontal scroll bar - rss menu had 100% width property and was sticking out beyond normal screen width.
Broken menu - I guess this happens due to larger font settings in the browser. Cntrl++ indeed had the same affect in my browsers. I positioned:absolute text on the left of the main menu and chanded font-size of the main menu to fixed pixel size.  Still it breaks out with extreme close up....  :-\

I still need to better position menus on photos page and the main site - they seem to be jumping up and down.

PROBLEM: I can't change the image of the login screen. Login was created through the menu item - Component.  I am saving page with the suffix, changing image, but there is no change on the front end.  Still the same image and no suffix.  Here is a screenshot of the settings.

Strange, but on my PC installation (I use XAMPP) everything changed without problems.

No problem... just replace /images/stories/key.jpg with different picture of the same name.

If this the icon that you talking about you can do as Ivan said...
actually we  all  do the same -overwrite- ... as this icon is not so nice..

but if you want to take advantage of all this options  listed in items-parameters  for left-right / login-logout
different positioning etc. you have to do only one little thing...

just delete(or unpublish) in system-menu the Login menu-item which is a simple link to system-url and not  to compoment...
this systemmenu item overrides any settings in your item-link(this in screen shot above)

====
not to forgot to mention that suffixes as they are css -suffixes  they cant touch(remove-add) our content or images,
they only can format them, css-formating only, thats all!
Suffixes are great tool for unique sites but people they don't use them!

KS-Net -> FANTASTIC!  I unpublished the system menu link and the new settings of login component immideately kicked in.    Thank you so much!

Suffix also appeared on h1 tag (so i can only use it to format the heading, which I don't need here).
I used suffixes for RSS and poles, which enables custom styling.

Thank you everybody for your support!  I love elxis community!
