Title: Forbiden user group
Post by: khaled on October 07, 2008, 20:08:56
 Hi everyone,

I am new to elxis and this is my first post  :-[

I am using 'elxis_2008.1_Nemesis_rev2204' (downloaded 3 days ago).

I have created a new user group (named 'student' under 'Public Frontend') using the 'Access Manager'. However, when I try to create a new user and assign him to this newly created group (student), I get the error msg 'Forbiden User group'. I've figured out that, I get the same msg whenever I try to assign a user to any group created by myself.

Am I doing anything wrong? I've been trying to sort it out for the last couple of hours without any success :(

Can anyone please help me solve the problem?

P.S. My skill level are really novice, so please provide me with the easiest solution (if there's any ofcourse!)

Thanks.

This fix has been already applied to Elxis 2008.1 and it works fine for me...
In the attached puicture you can see 2 groups i created just right now one having as parent the group "public frontend" and an other one having as parent the "registered" group (testgroup and testgroup2).

Hi ks-net,

Thank you for your reply. I did a search before posting my problem and indeed found the link you've provided. However, that was a problem with the backend group. So, I thought the Fore-end issue might've been overlooked as I am having the problem with the fore-end group users (didn't try the backend though, so not sure whether the same problem exist there as well which was supposed to be fixed in 2008.1)

To datahell, I can indeed create new fore-end groups, no problem there. The problem arises when i try to create/move new users to those newly created groups :(

Thanks datahell for your reply.

Well, I tried it again this morning and suddenly it seems to work now  ???

Not sure how long it will work !

I'll let you know if I have the problem again.

I think it will work for ever...   :)

I think it will work for ever...   :)

I hope so :)

BTW, I think I should write what I did different this time. Perhaps it will give a clue what went wrong

Previously, I created the users directly from the admin panel (backend) and tried to assign them to those newly created groups which didn't work.

This morning, the first thing I did was to register a new user through the fore-end and then moved him to the newly created groups. After that, I could create and assign users to new groups both through fore-end and backend.

So, there might be an area of investigation whether the system requires the first user to be created/registered through the for-end before assigning users to newly created groups....just a thought!

I am saying this because ks-net also found this error, so there might be something to look at...

Thanks again to everyone.
