For SeoPro elxis have to be installed in servers root.
if this is right then you can proceed to next steps
1- first open htaccess.txt in your elxis root folder make sure that : RewriteBase parameter point to servers root directory must have only the slash next to it... like this >> RewriteBase /
then rename htaccess.txt to .htaccess
2- edit ceneral setting in elxis admin (at seo tab> check seo pro)
3- Go to links below and download and apply any updates or fixes that they suggest
http://www.elxis-downloads.com/elxis/updates-patches/
https://forum.elxis.org/index.php?topic=1918.0
clear cache reload page... done

if your elxis is in a subdirectory like /elxis check at general config page seo not seopro
in a case of subdirectory installation you can't use seopro only simple seo
Edit .htaccess,
RewriteBase parameter must be RewriteBase /elxis/
you can apply above updates-fixes but not mandatory for simple seo...
clear cache reload page... done
Note:uncomment RewriteBase parameter if is coment .. remove any (#) defore it

SEO PRO works fine for sites in sub-directories too. You dont have to have your site at www root folder although we strongly recommend you to do so.
If you downloaded Elxis earlier than August 2008 you only need to have applied the SEO PRO fix (hotfix). If you downloaded Elxis now you dont have to apply that fix at it has already been applied to Elxis 2008.0 main release too. As for the rest do what ks-net told you.
