Title: Design html5 css3 grid layout
Post by: xmanhattan on October 17, 2011, 10:06:28
Hello all,

I have been studying the new technologies and wondering if anyone has experimented with them using elxis?

Here are some of my observations:

Even though html5 has a new doctype, the xhtml doctype can still be used.
The new format of html5 markup now follows similar logic that cms templates are built.

CSS3 is almost completely active in browsers from IE 8 and others, unfortunately IE is still leading but Chrome is a fast mover to overtake even Firefox for normal users.

The Grid layout is an interesting concept especially for sites that use a variety of templates as it looks like it can maximize layout and content placement.

New mobile devices will be taking a lead and therefore need programming and templates to adjust for screen size.

I understand that the new version of elxis will make use of the OAuth protocol allowing users to register and login.  That should help reduce the problem of spammers for the site and blogs.

Unfortunately, CSS3 is far from final specification. Problems still remain with IE(whatever version), which doesn't fully support even older (2.1) CSS specs.

HTML5 however is finished, and some aspects of it can be used. IE and Opera have lousy support for it, but I think Opera will get better soon.
