Title: Elxis pre-Installed on cPanel VPS ?
Post by: rentasite on February 02, 2008, 13:29:26

Hello,

the last days i have been thinking... if its possible to have Elxis (2006.4 or 2008 doesn't matter) pre-installed* on a VPS. In this way someone can offer Elxis CMS to his users/customers with their hosting plans. The VPS i want to have Elxis preinstalled is using cPanel/WHM.

Is this possible to be done or should i forget this idea ?  ;D

* Just like Fantastico

you can write a script that it can copy an extracted package of ELXIS from an archive file to a user folder .....

I think that it is not wise to install Elxis, or any other CMS trough some script (eg. Fantastico), because in that case you COULD have problems with owner privileges. What I mean is that in that case, owner of the files and directories could be noone (apache) instead of user, and therefore, you could have permission problems. It depends on multiple factors, and they are all related to the way the server is configured. That is very common problem with cPanel.

i think the file-permission will not be the problem (chown -r * chgrp -r *).

The "problem" could be the sql,  so as you said "peinstalled" you mean that you have a fresh installation as reference, you can copy the files whereever you want  but the sql-dump that you want to import should have the sql-name sql-user and sql-pass as variables (for the new customer).

And there is also the config.php to change.

I think the script-progamming time could be 30 minutes for Datahell (as php guru  :) )
