No you can't.

We have choosen to distribute Elxis with TinyMCE because we wanted the editor to be so good that noone would feel the need to change it.

TinyMCE version distributed with Elxis, is adjusted to special Elxis needs.

That means that you cannot use any other editor out of the box. First you have to change its code and make it compatible with Elxis.

I would say I have to disagree with Eliasan.  I for one would vote for FCKeditor rather than Tiny.   :D. One of the thing I dislike most about Tiny is the Image Manager. Of course  there is other stuff like Flash Manager and it is not all that stable (especially with javascript).  Elxis being a fork from Mambo/Joomla, I thought the functionality would be the same (i mean the way plugin/mambots, Module and Component works in both  platform), but Elxis is definately a little different.  Installed a FCKEditor Bot (made for Joomla) and installed it, but I could not make it work with Elxis.  With a little time, I believed I could make it (FCKeditor) to work with Elxis.

Overall, I would prefer Elxis than Joomla (thus I am here).  At least Elxis is a little more complete than Joomla (especially missing better support for ACL) which is important to many of us. One area of improvement would be adding a Content Revision Manager and Workflow for Content in Elxis. (sorry, I know this is not appropriate place for to share my opinion)  :P

Hi, james and welcome

Yes, Tiny does have rather clumsy image management, but in Elxis version of Tiny, you have iBrowser for image manipulation, so you can use it instead of default (most people do).
