Title: Strange eblog problem
Post by: xmanhattan on June 21, 2011, 10:26:27
Using the 2009.2 eblog, I just tried to enter the following
Quote
The current leader in software demand is Android
into the title field.

It displayed the error message
Quote
Try a larger title!
.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Looks strange to me as the title is fine.
If you enter a different title it accepts it?

Tried the same on 2009.2 eblog & no problem as referred!

Sorry to say that it won't accept anything.  The strange part is that I have not changed anything since the last time I entered an eblog article.

Does that error message mean anything particular in the code?

Are you sure you complete the SEO title field?
The error message you get is because the SEO title for the post item is empty.

Well, after I input
Quote
The current leader in software demand is Android
into the title field, I then click on SEO title and that error message appears.

Here is the image.

As I say, I have posted many times before without any problems.   Yesterday I had a look to see the permission settings on files and folders and they were normal.

The user name is the same for two different eblogs, the only difference is that one is for English and the other for Greek.

You don't click on the SEO title because it is just an input box. Do you click on validate SEO title? If you manually fill-in a seo title and click save, does it saves the post?

Here is what happens without clicking on suggested seo title.

Pasted in the title.
Pasted in the same title in lower case and with dashes in between word into the seo title

Clicked on suggested seo title and received the message try a larger title.

Also tried the same again but in the last step, I clicked on validate seo title and that worked.

Still seems odd that after all this time of using this by clicking on suggested seo title doesn't work.

If I find a reason for this problem, I will post it.

Thank you

Do you have the GZIP enabled ?

I assume you mean under global configuration -> server, GZIP Page Compression is not enabled.

You have confused the validate and suggest actions.

Validate: You click on it when you have written a manual seo title to check if it is valid before you click save.
Suggest: You click on it when you have an EMPTY seo title and you wish the system to automatically create one for you. (because you are too bored to spent 3 seconds to write a good seo title by yourself).

The recommended option is to enter manually the seo title as the human intelligence can generate better seo titles than the machine. So, write your seo title, click validate, and if it is valid click on the save button to save your post. Don't click on suggest!

Okay, not a problem.  As I say, I have been using it on multiple websites and it has been working great.
I still have not seen a reason for the suggested to have this behavior.

As a friend of mine who does not like using a computer says, "those machines are the work of the devil!".

Normally seo title suggestion should work. I don't know why it doesn't. I must check your site to reply to this question. So please put manually the seo title and click on validate.

Solution to this problem.

After checking file permissions and numerous other possibilities, the problem with the seo suggestion was caused by 2 older files as discovered by Datahell.

I am including the 2 files here but if you are using 2009.3 then there should be no need to update.

administrator/includes/seovs.class.php

components/com_eblog/eblogseovs.class.php

Datahell saves the day again.

Edit by datahell: I removed the attached files as they are for your site only. I didn't checked if they are identical to the most current ones. People should use the official Elxis 2009.3 release.
