Title: Username and Password are Incorrect
Post by: violetskye on December 31, 2006, 06:46:14
I know for a fact that both are correct. I just used them in setting up a test phpnuke site and it worked flawlessly. Is there something I need to edit in one of the files to make it elxis realize that the username and password are just fine and are exactly as they should be?

**UPDATE** It must be an issue with whatever the values are used for the username and password. I have 2 hosting companies that I use (1and1 & Netfirms) and after setting up a mysql database on Netfirms and using that username and password, the Elxis installation completed successfully. Both hosts use MySQL 5.0.

Here are the differences in the username and passwords:

1AND1
Username: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Password: xxxxxxxxxxxxx

NETFIRMS
Username: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Password: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

If I understood well the problem is that Elxis does not get connected to your database telling you that username/password are invalid. Is this the problem?

I need to tell me your database version (not php version), I also need to tell me the database name and host (if it is not localhost). If database name contain strange symbols this might be the problem. For example the symbol "-" produces problems (i.e. problematic db name: "elxis-database") .

Notice: MySQL 5.0 is known as an insecure version of mysql. Update to 5.1.

I'll try to give as much info as I can for you:

PHP 5 supported
Database version: MySQL 5.0.30 (hope that's the info you needed.)
Database name: xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Host name: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Username: xxxxxxxxx
Password: xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi,

I'm having exactly the same problem. User name and password incorrect. I'm using MySQL 4.1.12. The user name, password and permissions are all perfect. Could it be caused by encrytped passwords?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

One more thing... don't use NETFIRMS with Elxis!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had enormous problems with their ignorance.

If you need to change password for superadmin, here's procedure:

1. go to your phpMyadmin
2. find table elx_user in your DB
3. in that table, find user administrator
4. go to http://pajhome.org.uk/crypt/md5/
5. write new password in input field
6. press calculate MD5
7. paste result in to field password of administrator acount in DB
8. log in using the password you entered in input field above (step 5)

If you find this procedure hard to grasp, send me PM, and I'll fix it for you.

Hi Ivan,

Thanks for the advice. The problem is that there are no tables. I have the database created, the user name and password are valid. I have tested them using MySQL at the console. Whenever I try to run the Elxis installation it says that the user name and password are invallid. I've tried both locally on the server and over html from a workstation. I've tried copying the encrypted sql password into the password fields in the setup page. I've tried using the MD5 encryption tool that you recommended. After 2 days wasted I'm about to give up. I've never had a problem like this before. I have many databases running on my SQL server including FreeRadius, phpMyPrePaid and phpBB2. All of them accept clear text passwords during installation. It's a pity because Elxis seems to have every feature I need in a CMS system.

Regards,

Sean

Believe me Sean, I have numberless Elxis installations, and not a single Elxis error during both installation or administration.  I did have some problems twice:
1. Once I forgot to copy password at the end of installation process, and solved it using method I suggested above.
2. Second time, I hosted Elxis installatio on NETFIRMS servers, but there was NO CURE for their vanity nor stupidity.  :D

PS
If you had problems, you must first look for the cause elswhere. Elxis is flawless (almost). Now I have found properly configured hosting server, and not a single problem in sight since december last year. :D
