Title: Translators needed for Elxis 2008 help
Post by: datahell on October 10, 2007, 21:05:56
We have completed Elxis 2008 help system. Elxis 2008 has build-in multi-lingual help support. Even if you speak english as a secondary language, having a help system available in your own language is much more effective and helpful.  So it is important for the people that will use Elxis 2008 to have a help available in their own language. Here is where we need your help. Elxis 2008 help system's power will be based on your translation work.

We need volunteers to translate Elxis 2008 help to other languages.
I post a link to a zip file which is the english language to have as base.

Here are the original (english) help files:

https://www.elxis.org/help_elxis_2008.0_english.zip (https://www.elxis.org/help_elxis_2008.0_english.zip)

What is for translation?
Elxis help system is consisted of 100 html files. Translation is a hard work so better create work groups for each language.

How do I begin translating?
Whoever wants to translate Elxis help system has to download the zip and write a post just bellow declaring that he/she took over the translation to that specific language inorder to know that there is a translation work in progress for this language and maybe some other users will also join your work group.

Where do I send the final files?
You send them via e-mail at datahell [AT] elxis [DOT] org AND to ia [AT] goup [DOT] gr (incase the e-mail wont arrive to the first address we will receive it from the second)

Translation guidelines:
1. Use a text editor that support utf-8 such as PsPad ( http://www.pspad.com ). HTML files should be encoded/saved as UTF-8.
2. Translate everything keeping the format and the style of the original files. The final files should be almost exact copies of the originals.

Notice: We also need translation in Greek language.

Thank you very much!

hi john , i already finished translating help files for ELXIS 2006 , it is very interesting because i finished it today , and it is very more interesting that i should translate all of help system for 2008...  :'( :'( i should say that it needs very hours to translate all of them and you should be patient ...  ;)

Post by: datahell on October 10, 2007, 21:59:10
That's why I said that it is a hard work and you should work in groups, not alone. But there is no need to hurry up because translated help packages, due to their size (each language help is more than 0,5mb!) wont be included in the main distribution. You will be able to download it separately from elxis.org.

Some parts of the 2008 help are the same as in 2006.x so you wont have to translate them again.  Very soon the 2006.x generation will belong to the Elxis history... Especially for the Persian language I will invite someone from the Iranian joomla team that wanted to help in the past.

Notice: We also need translation in Greek language.

Some of the Greek Help files are already translated.
We do not want to make double effort on help subjects that are already translated.

Please contact me for instructions.

Thank you very much!

Hi, datahell

Japanese translation has started.

Thanks momo-i. Notice: I don't know anything about Japanese, I just see strange, alien symbols  :D So if there are some special specifications you need to implement in Elxis tell us and we will do it.

hum..

I will be using neither a Kanji/Hiragana/Katakana character nor a symbol as difficult as possible.
May I give examples though it doesn't know what strange, alien symbols displayed?

Thanks momo-i. Notice: I don't know anything about Japanese, I just see strange, alien symbols  :D So if there are some special specifications you need to implement in Elxis tell us and we will do it.

"Kanji/Hiragana/Katakana": these are definitely alien names!
I would be glad to teach us a little your language. Who knows, we may some day install Elxis on Mars! :D

Sayonara!  ;D

Hi, datahell.

Since I'm not so good at English, I may mistake the meaning which you have said.

For example, if "NEXT" is changed to a Kanj/Hiraganai, it will become the "次へ", and pronunciation will be set to "TSUGI E".

Do I only have to give some examples like the above to the Elxis team ???

thanks.

p.s.

Though this becomes another matter,
What should I do though the one that seemed that TYPO it was found though I just still
started translating?

elxis.access.main.html: 74
Quote
devided -> divided ???

elxis.access.permissions.html: 24-25
Quote
referes -> refers ???

elxis.access.permissions.html: 33
Quote
assuption -> assumption ???

"Kanji/Hiragana/Katakana": these are definitely alien names!
I would be glad to teach us a little your language. Who knows, we may some day install Elxis on Mars! :D

You may find some spelling errors on the English files. This is normal for such a large text. If anyone has any problem about the translation contact eliasan as he knowns this issue better than me.

Ok.
Then, I think that I will send collectively what is considered to be TYPO to eliasan after finishing a Japanese translation.

Perfect, you were very fast zepelin57!
The attached file is wrong. Most probably this happens because you can not attach files greater than 128kb in here. Upload it somewhere else and post here a link or send it with an e-mail at datahell [AT] elxis [DOT] org

Very good, I write you down in the list.
It is very important to have help available in our own language. Italian speaking users will thank you!

Notice: These files due to their size (more than 0,5mb each) wont be in the standard Elxis 2008 release distribution but you will able to download them seperatly from elxis.org. Just un-zip them in the /help directory and you automatically have help in your own language!

Very soon we will also release frontend and backend language files for translation.

Thank you for your reply.

Japanese are a Right to Left or Left to Right language?

"Satisfactory" means not as expected but readable or it means they are really OK?
