Title: IOS newsletter user selection
Post by: xmanhattan on February 25, 2011, 16:47:15
Hello everyone,

I am preparing the wiki user information for the IOS Newsletter and would like a clarification to know if selected users can be done separately for:
registered users from the user manager
         subscriber users

In other words either or both, and where to choose the recipients from?

I would also like to know how to choose the groups that can be assigned to the imported subscribers.

Finally, what method can be used by subscribers to unsubscribe?

I will not fully answer you as I need to install it to answer you 100%

Normally recipients get subscribed by themselves. Optionally you can import a list of subscribers (or even the current elxis users). The import file is a txt file having a comma separated list of these parameters:

userid, subname, subsurname, subemail, sublang, subgroup

For unregistered users userid = 0
subgroup is a string that represents a grouping option. Can be empty.
sublang is an elxis style language name (english, greek, etc). Can be empty.

Sample list of users to import:
0,John,Doe,john@example.com,english,golden members
0,Katerina,Pappas,katerina@example.com,greek,golden members
0,Jack,Daniels,jack@example.com,,silver members

If you do an export the exported file has exactly the same format.

I know, I'm just kidding him.

The entire Elxis Team is always busy because they are progressive people and that is why they are the best!

I look forward to seeing the excellence in Nautilus too as I have seen in previous versions.

Hello everyone,

I have just completed the creation of the newsletter for the wiki.

There is also a special note about problems that can occur due to the base language of the website but everything works 100%.

Enjoy!

Congratulations Peter!

Just the above link drives to a page where is written "There is currently no text in this page, you can search for this page title in other pages or edit this page"

However the link which has all material about IOS Newsletter is this: http://wiki.elxis.org/wiki/IOS_Newsletter

nikos written wile i was fixing those that he writes about...

******
@Peter
GOOD JOD   CONGRATULATIONS

page already exists... i moved it under the correct one which is
http://wiki.elxis.org/wiki/IOS_Newsletter

your page's title is not correct....
"Newsletters module" is very general... you should name the page as module name is...
the correct should be "IOSN Subscribe" or  "IOSN Subscribe module"

1- elxis-modules and elxis-components categories are for core, native mods and comps...
all other mods, bots , comps are going under the "Third-Party" comps, mobs, bots categories.

2- both pages lacks internal-linking.. this is very bad for users...it does not help them to browse the wiki...

eg..
Quote from: wrong
IOS Newsletter component must be installed previously in order for this module to work. http://wiki.elxis.org/wiki/Ios_newsletter
IOS Newsletter component <----- link it in wiki-page or add a link to wait the page(red-links)

do not leave DEAD-END-PAGES
http://wiki.elxis.org/wiki/Special:DeadendPages
those pages needs links...
also look http://wiki.elxis.org/wiki/Special:SpecialPages  --> Maintenance reports
all these pages need work .. so try not your pages listed in those  in  --> Maintenance reports

find any text that can help people to browse and start linking

a good example about internal-linking is this page http://wiki.elxis.org/wiki/Quick-Guide_Add_Content

3- do not assign nothing in categories 2008.1 2009.0 2009.1 etc... browse those categories to see what special-staff goes there... in the other hand assign mods comps etc..  to all elxis-versions is totally useless ...
99.999% all staff goes to all cats... so what the meaning to make a category that contains all staff .. you will only  get a list with all pages a list that helps none!

i have made from the begging a special wiki-template that have two purposes
http://wiki.elxis.org/wiki/Template:Compatibility
purpose 1-
help visitor to find basic info about extensions
purpose 2 -
this tpl is ideal for future-listing in a page that will short mods, comps or bots by their license author elxis version etc....
in future i will do this ... lets first collect some wiki-pages and i will do!

i will add this wiki-tpl to stavros module to see it in action

you might think that this tpl will only show staff... NO can pass data to other shortable-lists or make table with statistics and many other....
we will see it in future

for now if you deside to add some extra info to your extensions the better way is this tpl

Other possible problems

This error message means that there is a problem with the directory or folder permissions.
one more...
Directory or Folders on the web server should have permission settings of 755.

Please check the permissions for this folder and sub-folders.

    \administrator\components\com_newsletter\
And if you use the IOSN Module
    \modules\mod_iosn_subscribe\

If you continue to have problems, please visit the Elxis Wiki and/or Forum.

this is not true... none should touch permissions in ios newsletters...some dirs  and files have 777  uppon component's installation... should stay as is
Unless you use
cgi/fgci/suphp only then have to fix them!
