I open this topic because I think its can be useful to chose hosting for your Elxis, and also if your client ask you for Hosting Recommendation just give this link to can chose...
Lets go for this question, did you have some experience with some of them:
1) Godaddy
2) bluehost.com
3) justhost.com
4) hostgator.com
5) uniwebhosting.com
I have not good experience with Godaddy and with bluehost.com... For other, if someone has something it will be nice...

-
Okay, thanks, lets go for another opinion and experience... Did somebody have another opinion for maybe USA clients... Or another hosting...
-
hi
i have 12 sites on http://www.successfulhosting.com (USA) and i'm very happy. they have monthly and year plans under windows and linux...
one day I make a disaster, lost 10 sites witn databases because i'm stupid and they iin half day restored all with last backup of 6 hour before
the support is great and speedy. Surely much better of which have in Italy.
go daddy, i don't know... for me is too big, and usually the support of big companies is a problem. but a friend of mine is happy... he was on hostgator and bluehost (about this last i'm not sure) had a lot of problem maybe because his application is too much heavy with many db queries.(http://www.icyphoenix.com).
With elxis i have 5 sites and for me works right ;)

Yes, RENTASITE has focused on Elxis. Developing sites only with the use of Elxis CMS, 3 years now.
Of course we encourage our clients to use Elxis CMS on their site (hosting plan). We also support (1st level) them, for that!

Some things to have in mind:
1. DON'T host your sites on windows servers. NEVER!
2. If you live in Europe don't pick servers in USA (and the opposite) except if they are extremely fast.
3. Don't pick the cheapest hosting provider but the most reliable.
4. Don't pick hosting providers that rely their safety on PHP's safe_mode. Most probably they know nothing about security and setting safe_mode to on is the only thing they can do about security.
5. Don't pay attention to fancy stuff. Stay close to the subject: Is the server reliable, fast and secure? Do I have a good technical support when ever I need it?

This is great information, thanks!

Always keep your domain name separate from your host and never go for one of those "free domain name when you host with us" deals.
In other words, register your domain name by yourself and then setup your host.

Can you please explain why this is important, thanks...
-
Yeah, why is it so important? :)

Yeah, why is it so important? :)
It is like having a house key... You don't have to wait for someone else to unlock the door. If that is your house, of course...
-
Guys if you want to retrieve your domain... there is always a way!
-
Been there and although I won't say that everyone likes to blackmail a client, I prefer to keep the control myself.
There are some hosting providers that tend to use the domain as a way of keeping control over their customers.
By separating the domain name from the hosting provider, and keeping control of both, if you ever have a problem with your host then it's easy to simply open an account at a new host and then moving your nameserver info to your domain name.
Again, there are honest people and dishonest people in the world, it's a part of nature!

Nice, thank you for this, I am also want to control my domain and hosting and this is good advice....
