Title: Translators needed for Elxis 2008 frontend
Post by: datahell on November 07, 2007, 13:24:14
We need volunteers to translate Elxis 2008 front-end. I attach a zip file with the files that need translation. Except of the main front-end language files there are also language files for some modules and bots as well as the tinymce editor (attention: javascript file). If you don't want to translate these extra files don't do it but you will miss multilisguism in these features.

Translation guidelines:
1. Post a notice bellow that you took over the translation for your specific language inorder other users to know that there is already a translation in progress to that language.
2. Use a text editor that support utf-8 such as PsPad ( http://www.pspad.com ) or notepad++. All files should be encoded/saved as UTF-8.
3. Use the Elxis' standards for naming the files (greek, german, italian, persian etc)
4. Translate everything keeping the format and the style of the original files. The final files should be almost exact copies of the originals.
5. When finish zip everything and send them via e-mail to us at: datahell [AT] elxis  [DOT] org AND TO info [AT] goup [DOT] gr (in case we dont receive the first mail.

Thank you guys.

There is no deadline but  the administration language follows soon that requires more time to translate it as it is much bigger. We want to have both language packages ready if possible by the end of November. A language package can be installed separately anytime but we would like the default Elxis distribution to have pre-installed as many languages as possible. If Elxis 2008 is released and you do not manage to finish your translation, your language package will be added in elxis.org website for download.

Japanese translation was done.

And what was written in  https://forum.elxis.org/index.php?topic=1491.0 (https://forum.elxis.org/index.php?topic=1491.0), it has translated forcibly for the time being.
(Even if it does not apply a patch, I think that a meaning leads once)

As i promissed, here is the italian translation of the front-end. As italian is not my mother tongue there may be few mistakes.

-Greek Message: Όπως και στην αγγλική μετάφραση υπάρχουν μερικά μικρολαθάκια έτσι και στην ιταλική είναι πιθανό να υπάρχουν κάποια. Είναι λογικό όμως αφού δεν είναι οι μητρικές μας γλώσσες. Elxis 2006.4 is NOT RTL compatible!
This post is for Elxis 2008 translations which is fully RTL compatible and support perfect Hebrew language. I attach a screenshot of Elxis 2008 with Persian as the selected language to see that RTL works perfect. The only thing you have to do is to set _GEM_RTL = 1 to "Gemini" language file. Nothing else!

Here is my contribution to Elxis, the italian language package totally checked without any mistake / error / omission and in a good readable italian.

I've completed the file with other 35/36 ignore terms.

Moreover when 2008 available I can easily making more "perfect" sundry sentences due to some abstract and not well correctly understandable ones. In addition some sentences have to be translated not as is in english or greek for obvious reasons  (when possible already done by me).

If needed I could split that package in a formal one and a friendly one. A more correct and professional work.

Please, so, consider this last contribution based on the great work done by pcfun (a lot of compliments for your effort - it was necessary for doing what done by me, also for my spare time problems) for the italian distribution.

PS. please datahell confirm that all is ok, so I can delete my own copy

Files are encoded as ANSI.
You should encode them as UTF-8!

Don't use notepad! Notepad creates BOM header, so you make your file useless anyway. It's jut as datahell has told you, use ONLY PSPad od Notepad++, and set them to remove BOM from files. Believe me, I did that "Notepad thing" with my first translation, and I had to open each and every file one-by-one and save them without  BOM header, using PSPad.

Please, do read this article:
https://www.elxis.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=48&Itemid=94

And thank you very much! :)

I used the simple plain text Notepad and saved as it can. Then I used in my last upload package the Notepad++ selecting only form the "Format" menu the "Encode in UTF-8" instead of  checking the "Encode in ANSI" and "UTF-8 without BOM" options.

Have I lost all? I can simply download my first package saved by Notepad,  opening file per file in Notepad++ and then saving them with the right options... is it right?

I have downloaded your second package (saved with Notepad), and found BOM headers in the files. I've told you what I did the first time I made such mistake. You can just open each file with PSPad or Notepad++ and save it without BOM header. If you are using PSPad, you can check your file against BOM, by rightclicking on a file and selecting PSPad HEX, and then you can see the BOM just before the first <?php.... it looks like this:

Thank you very much for your suggestions.

I've downloaded the simple plain text package (saved by Notepad) and opened every single file .php in Notepad++, then in the "Format" menu I've seen the selection already active in the "Encode in ANSI" and checked the "UTF-8 without BOM" option. After then I've saved each files in that same way. Before seeing all if right about options format and then saving them.

Here is my "right" package. Please can you confirm me that now all is ok? Thank you again!

I have question for you: Why did you translate italian again? It is stated in the original post that italian is already done by pcfun.
EDIT: Everyone should first apply and get listed in red at the first post, so everybody can check who is doing what. When he is done, he is colored green, so that everyone knows he is done. It makes work easier for all of us.

Yes, I've seen your post, but there is nohing I can do about it. You must wait for datahell or eliasan. Besides, some "mistakes" listed there are not really mistakes. ;)

I have question for you: Why did you translate italian again? It is stated in the original post that italian is already done by pcfun.

I saw the italian translation and so I had to improve the package. Please note that there are some minor improvements (and sundry sentence "re-disegns") to be done for making it as the best CMS italian translation ever! I thank you again pcfun for his effort that made my long work easier. For this reason, You have to state in this thread that the italian translation is by pcfun (and please not by newart). That's all folks!

Everyone should first apply and get listed in red at the first post, so everybody can check who is doing what. When he is done, he is colored green, so that everyone knows he is done. It makes work easier for all of us.

I beg your pardon... I can tell you only 1 consideration: I translated nothing but what already translated, a sort of bug fixing as you like (can we list that in... blue?  :D )
cheers

PS. I hope all is ok  :-[

Italian files are not ok. They are (again) encoded as ANSI, they must be UTF-8.
Do you see the strange theta letter "θ"? This is because my computer tries to understand what is the strange character you have written under the ANSI encoding and displays the closest ANSI one available in my system (the Greek theta). If this file was encoded as UTF-8 I would see perfectly the Italian special characters. If you use this ANSI file on a live site with page encoding utf-8 it will display you strange squares or question marks as your browser wont be able to understand the special characters as these characters does not belong to Unicode! Your eyes might see it the same but the reality is different. α in ANSI and α in Unicode are totally different although they look the same. The first one uses 1 byte per character the second alpha has 2 bytes (multi-byte). PHP can not handle multi-byte strings that's why Elxis has a special class for handling multi-byte strings (which btw mambo and joomla do not have, so its a lie that they support utf-8 and multi-lingual sites).

The first submitted Italian language files were again wrong encoded as ANSI and it took me a lot to correct them as I don't have Italian keyboard and made the corrections one by one using babelfish and copy-paste special characters from their to your files. I can not do continuously the same thing.

Here is the same file from your first corrected submission encoded as UTF-8. As you see the special characters are being displayed fine when encoding is utf-8.

Sorry, it was my fault... I should have check ALL files. It just happened that I opened mod_ajaxvote, and it was utf-8 encoded with no BOM, so I thought it was the case with all the rest. I can re-save them all in proper format, and post them back here. There is another question: is pcfun OK with this new (fixed) translation from newart?

You're right, in Joomla / Mambo never had a problem like that - and so I didn't know that issue...

N.B. Your last screenshot on the #44th post, isn't mine1 There is a wrong grammar mistake in translation, so it's impossible!

Well I'm very sorry for all troubles occurred, but I've done exactly what written on the #34th post by me for avoiding any problems. In that post there is also the right download to get.

However All I can do is to solve my work, please what have I to do?  If it is wrong again, well, what doing?

In the greek message, in the same post, i suggested the administrators to ask an italian to fix my mistakes as i knew there would be few ones.
I really thank newart that fixed them and now the translation is better. And something last.
I have no problem if you write even newart as translator. He contributed and there is no problem to be "benefited". ;)

Thank you, you are fast! :)

EDIT: You should, however, post translation here, so I can check if it's encoded properly and stuff... in order to give some relief to Elxis Team.

All new translations should be submitted to Elxis Downloads Center (http://www.elxis-downloads.com). Elxis 2008.0 release has been closed and we can not accept new additions to it. As it is a language package you can request from us to host the language package, add it in our download system and take care the distribution of the file.

Post by: Oxura Media on March 12, 2008, 16:01:42
Hello everyone,

I'm willing to work on a Dutch translation of all Elxis components.

Im also thinking about setting up a Dutch Elxis community.
Haic started a community about 1,5 year ago but it's offline.

On topic: Dutch frontend translation started!

Very good Oxura, when you finish your site send us the link.
Please notice that, as translation base, you should use the english language package from the released Elxis 2008.0

I downloaded the files from the topics pinned at the top of this forum;

Thanks for your support.
elxis.menus.system.html
This is a part of the Help system, you don't need to translate this file if you are not translating all the rest of Help files.

Thank you again :)

You can simply translate files from 2008.0[Olympus] distribution. Frontend files are located in folder language/english/, and backend files are in administrator/language/english/

Good luck
