Title: What is different between Mambo, Joomla and elxis
Post by: askme on March 01, 2007, 06:19:30
I have seen Joomla, Mambo and now elxis, three of them...I don't know if there is others similar like this. I am not talking about other CMS. I found these three almost same, almost 98% same, except colours and location of links. Can someone highlight, what are difference between three (if any)? Which is lighter and more faster. Any other differences, inside and outside.
THanks

Hi,

First of all you must understand the relation they have.

First there was only Mambo.
Then Joomla came out of Mambo (Sept 2005, if I remember well).
Then Elxis came out of Mambo (December 2005, project published on October 2006).

Although they look the same, there are a lot of differences between them.
As you can understand I can't speak for Joomla, but I will try to point the major differences between Mambo and Elxis. A lot also apply between Elxis and Joomla.

Elxis is trully multilingual.

Elxis has full UTF-8 support.

You can change the look and feel of your site based on the selected language.

Elxis uses ADODB and can connect to more than one databases (currently MySQL and Postgress).

Elxis can perform automatic translations.

Elxis supports Extra User's Fields (Associate extra information with user accounts).

Elxis has an embeded Access Manager. It is not limited to predefined access groups. Administrator can define new user groups or edit the current ones. It has control what users can do or see.

Elxis uses a very powerfull WYSIWYG editor (TinyMCE), loaded with extensions, like iBrowser.

Elxis has multilingual administration.

Elxis supports flv videos out of the box.

Elxis has a better PDF generating mechanism (not perfect).

Elxis introduced a new feature called Bridges, that allows it to connect with other applications.

Elxis supports templates for login screens.

Elxis introduced a new type of addons called Tools. These are small applications accesible only from the administrator's site.

Elxis has extra security features like the Elxis Defender tool and the Floodblocker tool.

Elxis has an Updiag tool that helps administrators keep their sites current with the latest Elxis version.

Elxis comes with a preinstalled backup manager.

Elxis is compatible with templates written for Mambo and Joomla.

Elxis can use components, modules and mambots developed for Mambo. Most of them need modifications before being able to run with Elxis.

I think I covered the most important features that Elxis has. Please feel free to ask us if you have more questions.

I'd try the 3...

It's depending mainly on what you wan't to do... But as you can see I stay with elxis.

here the reason why :

- easy to use and to install (for a non professional like me) lot easier than the 2 other

- finally a real multilingual CMS (It's the main reason why I come to elxis... you can't imagine all the problem that I had to manage a multilingual website with mambo or joomla)

- a great community and developper team  ;)

- lot of preinstalled function (it's quite important because when I had install some module on joomla it started to lag a lot) so it's [my opinon] much more stable.

About the same graphics... you'r right quite all the web look's the same...

That the opinon of a non professional...
