Well, from time to time, Wine is nice, but I think -for a native linux user- the solution is simple: vmware.

I have it installed on my susebox, and i use it for some cases, where the program i need has no good equivalent in my os. Such are the applications mentioned above by xmanhattan, or my beloved "mighty fax" and some others like the settings editor of my Humax (satellite receiver). Not to mention my linux unsupported scanner.

Another case is testing a webpage in different environments or versions. You can have as many virtual machines as you like. And snapshots of them, too. Imagine it.

Have a nice evening.

Yes, I use mightyfax too, it is excellent.

It takes me about 2 days to reload my system from scratch, change all the different parameters, and download a variety of addons so if my system doesn't burn down then I will keep using it until it does.

I use it all the time, since the time it was OOo. Even for books prepress. However, I miss MS Acess compatibility, but everything else is perfect.

You'll have to try experimenting on your own or have a look at these.
