Title: Modern templates for Elxis 4.x
Post by: Bezman on June 01, 2015, 12:17:03
Hi,

So far, there are very few templates available for Elxis 4.x. Even fewer are responsive.

I have seen the Templates development guide (https://forum.elxis.org/index.php?topic=7517.0).
In early versions of Elxis, it was possible to use Joomla templates with little or no tweaking. Since then, Elxis has been rebuilt a lot.

Q: I wonder if it would be worthwhile to purchase modern templates, like those from RocketTheme (http://www.rockettheme.com/joomla/templates/clarion), and re-build them so they work with Elxis?
Or would that be so much work that one might just as well sit down with Notepad++ and write one from scratch instead?

How about the Gantry 5 framework, could that (be made to) work with Elxis?
What does the future look like with templates and Elxis 4.x?

I know the problem I have several times think of designing a new template but I have no free time available. Elxis Team is responsible for developing the Elxis core, not for third party templates. However I will try during the summer to find some time to build 1-2 good templates.

I've tried Joomla CMS so many times and a period of while since 2010.

Tell you the truth, Elxis CMS is your best choice for now. Easy to use, high secure, fast and more... etc. Thanks Elxis Team and datahell.

You also can ask webgift (https://forum.elxis.org/index.php?action=profile;u=783) who can trust and provide your service.

I agree! Getting teased by Joomla-loving colleagues though, who say "hah, that design looks like web pages I built ten years ago!" (said about one of the free 4.x Elxis templates). I would REALLY like to show him...  >:(

There are many excellent Elxis sites out there with fresh and modern design. These sites use custom made templates that never got published on EDC. The problem is with the public/free available templates. Our recommendation especially for business sites is NOT to use free templates because they are not unique and your site will look identically to many others. Pay a professional instead to design you a good unique template. As I said I will try to built 1-2 modern templates late this summer. BTW the default built-in template Flex is a technically excellent template, you can customize it, or create a new template (not commercial) based on it.

The new Chloe template looks good - I will try it out shortly. Thanks for fixing such a good CMS and add-ons!
