Title: Which Components would to like to see being compatible with Elxis?
Post by: eliasan on October 24, 2006, 19:26:18
This topic serves as an open question to all of you that you are using Elxis.

As you already know, components that have been developed for Mambo or Joomla!, can become compatible with Elxis after modifications.

We would like to ask about your priorities. Please post here components that you would like to be compatible with Elxis.

Then we could perform the modifications and release a version that is compatible with Elxis or ask the initial developer (if it is interested) to perform the modifications.

When you post a component, please also add a link to developer's web site.

Note: We talk only for modifications. NOT rebranding.

FacileForms, a GNU/GPL non commercial component that creates forms is already converted for Elxis and it is already in use. I don't want to reveal in public the Elxis websites that use it, but if you send me a PM, I will send you the links.

FacileForms has more capabilities than Phil A Form, but Phil A Form is more simple in use.

One very hot and interesting commercial component is "iJoomla", this one creates a magazine with many options concerning the layout of the site as long as the author's mini profiles etc.
It's cheap, it's clean, It's easy to use (after the initial installation wich is a little clumsy due to the ioncube environment).

However the only way to make this compatible is by contacting the developers and asking them if they want to...

But this component is a real beauty and it will help a lot of people to publish their magazines (because elxis will be used heavily for this role).

DOCMan for Elxis is available for download from Elxis Directory section, on www.elxis.org.
The bundle includes the main component, plus a search mamBot and four modules.

Hello,

I search for a forum component for elxis.

Or even better an SMF bridge.

There is allready an Elxis-SMF bridge available but it is a commercial product. Elxis bridge system requires that you have component Bridge installed (free with the first bridge you purchase). Component Bridge allows you  to connect Elxis CMS easily with any bridged application.

For two reasons:
1. We have to eat. We continiously give money for Elxis project dont you think that we have the right to make something out of it?

2. We think that we have a great Bridge system available that there is similar to no other equivalent in the market. It is also entirely based on a technology that we have created from scratch.

Note: There will also be Bridges available for free (ie Elxis-Athinorama bridge). It is not an entirly commercial feature. Anyone can create a bridges for Elxis and use them. The same thing happens with components, modules etc. There are commercial and non commercial products. Component bridge is a commercial product but we give it for free with the first Bridge you purchase.

Hi datahell,

what bridges are available - as full & real bridges?
I'm interested, but I don't know what I could buy, where I can buy and how much I have to pay for it.

Till now there is Elxis-SMF bridge, Elxis-XCart bridge and Elxis-Athinorama (Athinorama is a Greek web site) bridge. We have not created many bridges till now because we try to give as many free software (components etc) as possible and to develop more Elxis itself. Information on how you can purchase Elxis commercial products will be available in a few weeks. Of cource anyone can create bridges, components etc and give them for free or sell it. Elxis team is responsible for the main CMS only but we also try to give you as many free extensions as we can. This can not be done for ever. We would like to see people from the community start creating extensions for Elxis. Especialy for SMF you can also use the Mambo's way to bridge Elxis and SMF although you must make some modifications to the existing bridge (component smf I think) in order to work under Elxis. We also speak with other companies that make software for Mambo or Joomla to also make Elxis compatible versions of their extensions. Elxis has been released 16 days ago. I think that we have done a great work in these 2 weeks. Give as time to create more things for Elxis, take Elxis on your hands and start creating extensions for it. Dont wait to take everything ready by us.

 I cannot find the SMF bridge in your e-shop.

Is there a link?

Hi yiannos,
You are right.

At first we thought that we should give SMF bridge as a commercial component.

Then we thought that it wouldn't be too smart as the "competition" is offering free solutions for forums and especially for SMF that is Free (liberty) and Free (price).

So we decided to offer the SMF-bridge ( Tuesday 17:28  ::) )  for free (price).

But SMF bridge is useless without the Bridge component. So we have decided to give it also for free.

If you have noticed a small confusion and back and forth steps, you are correct. Sooner or later, we will find our way!

The good thing is that we will give for free something that we had announced that it would be commercial. Imagine what would happen if it was the other way around!!!

Hello Elias,

i'm not really a friend of SMF  ;)  but i think that the decision to give it free, makes a lot of Elxis-Fans happy.

imho your choice is a good strategy and you are on the right way.

JoomlaComment 2.40 has not been tested for compatibility with Elxis and most probably will not be compatible.

We build a directory component specially for Elxis CMS, that will be more powerful than you can imagine. It is a revolutionary component like no other in the market! I can not tell you more right now. More info will be available in a week or two.

Hi engelsol,

Even from the early days of Mambo, there were solutions that allowed to do this.

Still today, I do not find a strong reason to bother with this kind of installations.

On the other hand, it is obvious that other people find it usefull.

Please enlighten me.

Thank you in advance

I don't find a reason to install and use such a component. You can make many tricks with templates and simulate different sites if this is the issue. Elxis also allows you to play with language. You can have one site per language if you wish. It is only matter of how you display the results, so it is a template issue.
Title: Re: Which Components would to like to see being compatible with Elxis?
Post by: engelsol on December 27, 2006, 22:11:08
Well Now I agree with you..I just checking and you are right... language and templates is the way to go...

My problem was how to localize content for different countries with same language...
example.. Global website, Mexico website and Dominican Republic website...
what I am think now is replicate spanish...e.g.:  es_Do (or spanish_DO for dominican republic) and es_MX (or spanish_MX for mexico).

After this I need to filter domains so:
globaldomain.com  ->  globaldomain.com?mylang=english
                                    globaldomain.com?mylang=spanish

domain.com.do  - > domain.com.mx?mylang=spanish_do
domain.com.mx ->  domain.com.mx?mylang=spanish_mx

Each language in elxis is unique and through it Elxis sets locale automatically. Also components and modules language will always set in english! Elxis wont understand your custom language. One language package for each language named as described in includes/Core/locale.php file. It is not recommended to rename a language. You must use "spanish" for Spanish language, not "spanish1" or "spanish_do" or "spanish_mx". For mexican language the proper name is "spanish_mexico".

You do the trick you want by just playing with menu items. You can set foreach menu item a desired template. Menu items have also language information. So, you can set a template foreach menu item and/or language. There are many combinations.

The most used component used on joomla/mambo is Community Builder at http://www.joomlapolis.com/ . With its profile tab control panel for joomla and its components. This must be a must core add on elxis i think as its the most used and relied upon component in the joomla/mambo community.

Most member from there will not convert to yourselves until you offer something similar as this component is heavily relied upon.  :-[

As for the community builder issue here is a screenshot from the Elxis 2008 user's profile page. Elxis 2008 has 14 new standard user fields!

Profile page is fully multilingual and profile options can be set ON/OFF from Elxis SoftDisk (c). Of course you can always set unlimited custom user fields.

Hi, I am new here.
I used to use joomla, but I am not quite satisfied. I prefer the way you handle languages f.e. However I recently found a joomla hack named content reloaded, which clones any content into a new id; still changes in one document work out for all clones. This is a very practical hack that could be useful for elxis. I am afraid, I am not a great coder, so I don't know, how to make it work fpr Elxis. Maybe you can look at it and make it work for Elxis. This would make it THE cms for me! The developers site you can find at http://www.plastwich.de/ (http://www.plastwich.de/)

Best regards!

There is already a Sitemap component for Elxis CMS created by me. Sitemap component has been developed especially for Elxis CMS, so it supports Elxis unique features such as multi-linguism. Here is a short features list.

*  Multi-lingual site maps for normal visitors (adjustable)
* Google multi-lingual XML site maps (also valid for MSN, Yahoo, ask.com and all the search engines that support XML sitemaps as defined at sitemaps.org)
* Yahoo TXT sitemap (urllist.txt)
* Compatible with both Elxis 2008.x and 2006.x
* Includes 6 free extensions for the most popular third party components
* SEO PRO compatible and optimized (Elxis 2008.x)
* Contains a SEO PRO extension for component Sitemap that is automatically installed during the component's installation
* Free extensions/updates download (for all 1.x versions)
* Elxis verified software
* Cache enabled for fast load
* Native Elxis installation using ADODB schema for support of any database type Elxis supports (currently MySQL and PostgreSQL)
* Easy configuration
* Control panel available in 7 languages: English, Greek, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish (you can add more by translating the language file)
* XHTML/CSS valid code
* Contains rules for robots.txt
* Ready sitemap's submission links to search engines.

Sitemap component is commercial but in very low price. It will be available via the Elxis Downloads Center (http://www.elxis-downloads.com) and IOS (https://www.isopensource.com) websites.
