Hi,
Im happy to announce that an "Upgrate Script from Elxis 2006.4 to 2008 version" is finished and ready to be given out for use. As its in a BETA phase, i will dispense it to 10 registered users of Elxis Forum. Its been tested and till now, has 0% generated problems. I personally have upgraded 2 sites, very smoothly without any problems with this script.
After we finish the tests, it will go out public totaly FREE for use. - I must say tha its not RTL compatible.
The first 10 users, who will contact me through PM will be given the URL to download "Elxis UPDater".

I think i was first people that i request Spiros to let me use the updater because i was drowned into the updater :D
I told guidelines of updater to Amigamerlin , and am waiting for response from him about success in update ...
So we should wait , if it be successful , i publish it ... But the updater is completely with your own risk !

.... the migration was a success !! ;D
I've do all in local and seems to have all working :D .. .yes ... all is currently working.
I've to do some deeply test but the first impression was really good.
The script works flawless and the istruction are detailed. ;)
I'm having some little problem with my current template that is not for the current Version of ELXIS but with the help of
Farhad Sakhaei I'm sure the problems will going out.
I'll keep you all informed :D

As you read I've do it in local and all went ok but as you wrote my template don't like too much ELXIS 2008.
I've asked help again in this community to supernet and he agree to help me with the template.
Well ... what I can say .... A BIG THANK YOU TO YOU ALL IN THIS FANTASTIC COMMUNTY.
You all make square around my problem and solved it... really fantastic.
Just 3 days ago I was really scared about my situation and now I've almost all the problems solved :D.
Thank you again ... really a fantastic community with really skilled and talented peoples.

i´m happy about the situation, that a elxis-user has written an update script.
That we have to use the script by our own risk is normal and we know that,
but it is really more intelligent to use a script with "questions", than to
make a new installation with manual content-migration.
Hey, we are living in the year 2008, and i have never seen before a
cms-system, that there is no update-path between the versions from the
developers. This is not acceptable. I use as sample contenido as cms in many
other installations, and there is over many years always a update path in
every update!
So please, let us be happy with the script (if we gan get it) or make a better one. :o

Question: Are you a new member in this forum, or a new user of Elxis CMS? I have the impression that you're new in the forum. Cause you are asking for an upgrade/update script from the old to the new version. So u must had in mind and knew about elxis.org ;) Right?
BUT........ ALSO u were searching the web (as you told me in your PM) for answers related to Elxis CMS... rather then the official site!!! That makes me really really curious. ::)
And, also , about your PM... I will answer in public: The April fools post, was just a joke for that day. I think we have the right to relax sometimes and smile. If you read below the 1st post... you can easily keep up! Certainly after that post, the end of the world didn't sunrise ;D

Elxis 2008.0 is not just a new version of Elxis, it is a new generation. Elxis 2006.x and 2008.x have a lot of important internal differences and therefor an automatic update script could not be 100% successful. Elxis is a CMS with high quality of source code and very secure. We would never publish an update script that will generate an elxis installation not 100% perfect. Most Elxis sites are small amateur sites but there are also many large professional and governmental web sites with Elxis that even the smallest problem to that sites does matter. These people mostly need stability from Elxis and such an update would be a possible problem. That's why we did not released an update patch. Here are some practical reasons why an automatic update could not be 100% successful:
1. Seo titles needs human intelligence to be entered correctly.
2. System links should be entered in the database before any other menu item.
3. There are important changes in almost all modules and bots parameters which can not be updated automatically.
4. Elxis 2008 is a table-less CMS while the 2006 is not. CSS classes have been dramatically changed in Elxis 2008. So before you switch from 2006 to 2008 you need to have prepared an identical template with the one you used before that will be compatible with Elxis 2008. This can not be done automatically.
Many other changes which I can not remember now and of course many changes in the database, new features (i.e. softdisk) and new database tables.
Finally here is a question for you: Can you update from Windows XP to Windows Vista? No, they are totally different program generations.
At this moment I and Ivan Trebjesanin work hard on Elxis 2008.1 that will also have many changes in it's source code due to the fact that Elxis becomes 100% PHP5 compatible and also Elxis 2008.1 supports the Oracle database. But fortunately there will be an automatic update script from 2008.0 to 2008.1 even if more than 1000 files were modified! The update script will be fully automatic, you wont even have to upload files!
